Rhode Island Reds are a great choice for beginner chicken-keepers, or expert small flock keepers alike!
They are easy to keep, hardy, and adaptable. They are curious, friendly, a bit pushy but very lovable, they are also very talkative and never quiet!
They will tolerate confinement, but if they are allowed to free range they will excel at it.
The Rhode Island Red hen can and do occasionally go broody, and make very protective mothers. A good hen can lay 200-300 eggs each year.
The hens are generally docile enjoying the company of people and chickens alike. The roosters can be aggressive during the breeding season.
