WELSUMMER
Large Fowl
Origin: Holland
Lifespan: 6 – 12 years
Eggs: 180 per year
Egg Color: Red-Brown / Chocolate
Purpose: Eggs / Meat
Cold Hardy: Yes
Welsummer lay deep reddish brown color eggs, sometimes with dark speckles. (Please remember though, the hens that lay the darkest eggs also lay the fewest, the quicker the egg passes through the system the lighter the shell color.)
They are friendly and intelligent, also can be easily handled. They love to be free ranged, although they can easily adapt to small yards and runs as well. Hens rarely go broody. The rooster is very handsome and their colors are stunning.
Welsummer is an autosexing breed – Chicks are much easily sexed as the females have much darker markings on their head and back than the males.
